04-24 JULY
Men’s Open and Pro Junior Division
The National Bodyboarding Tournament, titled National Bandufilaa Challenge 2019, the tournament witnessed the debut of MBBA’s inaugural junior category, which featured 16 minor competitors. With 41 bodyboarders registered, the event was one of the most diverse MBBA championships to date, with surfers from 11 islands and nine atolls around the archipelago competing.
In addition to the Men’s Open and Pro Junior divisions held in the 2019 event, the 2022 event also consists of two new divisions; Master, Drop Knee and Women’s Open Division. The 2019 event had a favorable effect on the sport’s appeal among youth. As a result, a greater number of local bodyboarders will have the opportunity to compete at the national level. This has acted as a major motivational tool for local residents to work harder and establish a career in the community.
